Public hearings are set for the Fulton County Board of Education to receive input on the proposed closure of Parklane Elementary School in East Point, Spalding Drive Elementary School in Sandy Springs, and the Conley Hills Elementary School building in East Point.
The Fulton County Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, February 11 at the FCS North Learning Center, 450 Northridge Pkwy in Sandy Springs.

The Fulton County Board of Education intends to opt out of the statewide adjusted base year ad valorem homestead exemption for Fulton County Schools. All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this matter to be held on January 14, 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the North Learning Center, 450 Northridge Parkway, Sandy Springs, GA 30350 and on January 23, 6 p.m. at the South Learning Center, 4025 Flat Shoals Road, Union City, GA 30291.
It’s time for the annual Young Georgia Author’s Writing Competition sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education. The purpose of this optional competition is to encourage our K-12 students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, provide a context to celebrate their writing success, and recognize student achievement in the arts and academics.
Entries must be submitted to Diana Zarzour, the CST, by Monday, Feb. 3rd.
WHAT TO WRITE
Unlike many writing competitions, the YGA does not provide a prompt to which students must respond or provide any other boundaries to their genre choice or creativity beyond a 1900-word limit. (if typed, double-spaced Times New Roman is preferred).
Entries may include:
- Short Stories
- Poetry
- Essays/Literary Criticism/Analysis
- Journalism
- Academic/Research Reports
- Personal Narratives
- Any Other Original Student Writing
